History

1928 Daimler 16/55 Open Tourer

RF 4496

First registered in Staffordshire on 1st May 1928, the model was originally announced in 1926 when it earned the award of ‘Car of the Year’.

The Daimler was the first car to be produced in the UK in 1896 and was favoured more so than the Rolls Royce by the Royal family even into the 1930’s. Perhaps this was because Edward VII had his first experience of a motor car in a Daimler as Prince of Wales in 1898.

This particular model is the smallest Daimler made in the 1920’s and is possibly the only one of its type remaining. When new it cost £790. The car is very original in every way, and a considerable amount of the leather is still in place and is in remarkably good condition for its age. It won the award for the car in the most original condition at the 1996 Daimler Centenary Rally.

The car was owned by a Norfolk Doctor for many years and even into the 1950’s he used the vehicle on his daily rounds.

Based in the heart of the new forest, since 1987 Genevieve Vintage Car Hire (Registration #2275727) has built up an enviable reputation for reliability and quality in the provision of chauffeur driven vintage, veteran and classic cars for weddings in the Hampshire, Wiltshire and Dorset areas.  .

The fleet currently numbers 11 and includes rare and imposing vehicles such as a 1920 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost Salamanca Cabriolet Collapsible and a 1929 Rolls-Royce 20 Landaulette.

The cars are maintained by vintage car engineers and driven by knowledgeable and skilful enthusiasts.  Period uniforms are usually worn with the older cars.

No more than one wedding per day is undertaken by any one car and with the number of cars in stock we will always have a spare car and driver, in the very unlikely event of any mechanical failure on the day.
